reflection question

Is this a thing in stories about kings, I have noticed it in a couple where the king character confides in his jester. Why do they do this? Is the jester supposed to represent the kingĀ“s most inner thoughts or something like that?

  1. There are a lot of reasons for this. One might be that comedy has permission to break the rules a lot, to be more honest. Kings need honest advice, not just sycophants.
